Nervo in talks to appear on Ultimate DJ

Australian DJ and producer duo Nervo are in talks with Simon Cowell to appear on his new global reality TV show Ultimate DJ, which launches in the second quarter of 2016.

It’s not confirmed what roles Melbourne-born Mim and Liv Nervo will play.

According to Mim, Cowell had approached them and told them they could be involved in any capacity that they chose. ''I've never watched a reality TV judges show, but they said you could judge or mentor but we haven't decided,'' she told the Daily Star.

It’s not the first time on television for the twins, who ranked #55 in the Global DJ list, and #10 in the UK where their Loaded Records label is based. In 2013 they made a one-off appearance on the TV shows One Life to Live and Styled To Rock.

At 18, the one-time models signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing. In 2008 they co-wrote the Grammy-winning single When Love Takes Over by David Guetta and Kelly Rowland. Two years later they landed a worldwide deal with Virgin Records/EMI Music which included a joint venture to find and produce new acts.

They have since written for, or worked with, the likes of Afrojack, Kylie Minogue, Nicky Romero, Britney Spears, Cheryl Cole, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Armin Van Buuren, Nicole Scherzinger, Daichi Miura and Kelly Rowland and had club hits of their own. Currently on a European festival tour, their debut album Collateral is set for release this month. It includes collaborations with Minogue, Nile Rodgers, Jake Shears, Kreayshawn, Dev and Alisa Ueno.

The global DJ community is divided on Ultimate DJ. Some say it will impact adversely on the scene’s solidarity and culture, with superstars like Tiesto saying a TV show would give it a false image, saying “You need an hour to DJ, not two minutes on TV.” DJ Fresh, who collaborated on Rita Ora’s Hot Right Now also turned down an offer from Cowell, according to Daily Star.

But it has the thumbs-up of major DJs as Patrick Moxey who is producing the show with him (and says it will unearth new talent and is “the next step in the evolution of this [EDM] phenomenon”) and initially Steve Aoki who was announced as a judge but dropped later during preliminary rounds with sources claiming he had been “out of his depth”.
