Melbourne musician stung by stingray in WA

Singer Leisha Jungalwalla of Melbourne alt-pop synth duo This Way North is continuing with their tour despite being stabbed by a stingray at Cervantes beach in Western Australia.

This Way North were six shows into a 21-date national tour behind their new EP Vol. 2.

On a day off, Jungalwalla was down the beach watching dolphins frolicking when she decided to wade into a rock pool.

She disturbed a camouflaged stingray which attacked both her ankles.

The singer managed to hobble to a local Lobster Factory restaurant, bleeding from both ankles, and was sent by ambulance to hospital.

Apparently this was the accident-prone Jungalwalla’s fourth ride in one.

In a statement issued through her publicist, she said, “The local hospital staff were second to none, and whilst it hurt like hell, I’ve now been nicknamed Stingray which will get a lot of mileage if I ever decide to join a bikie club or a metal rock band.”

The WA tour went off without any cancellations, and now heads to:

Vol. 2 was recorded over two stints in Toronto, Canada, with producer Derek Downham, whose credits include Eagles of Death Metal, Broken Social Scene and Holy Fuck.
