Linkin Park dominate sales and streams in Australia, US

Linkin Park sales and streams were soaring following the death of singer Chester Bennington last week.

Both the debut album Hybrid Theory (2000) and Meteora (2003) are occupying the first two spots in Australia’s iTunes chart, with ten of the band’s songs making their way back into the iTunes Top 50– includingNumb at #5,Shadow Of The Day (#18), One Step Closer (#22) and Somewhere I Belong (#25).

Billboard reported that sales in the US jumped by 5,332% on July 20, the day the news broke that Bennington had taken his own life. In total, albums and tracks moved 110,000 copies.

Audio streams of Linkin Park music also increased on that day, rising 730% from the day before with a tally of 12.6 million. Most streamed was their biggest US hit, In the End, with 923,000 plays.

Linkin Park were also the most popular act in the world as far as Spotify was concerned, streamed 14.77 million times across the globe that day, beating Justin Bieber (12.6 million), Quavo (10.4 million), Daddy Yankee (9.9 million), J Balvin (9.1million) and DJ Khaled (7.73 million).

Based on sales of physical, digital and streams, four albums re-entered the Billboard Hot 200, with this year’s One More Light at #17, Hybrid Theory at #27, Meteora at #41 and Minutes To Midnight at #115.

Not unexpectedly, these albums fared better on the rock charts, respectively at #3, #5, #6 and #27.

Linkin Park have set up a suicide prevention site in honour of their singer, with resources including phone and text lines for those with suicidal thoughts. The site also exists for fans to help each other through the bad times.
