Lee Kernaghan ‘Backroad Nation’ wins 2020 Golden Guitar Award

Aussie country music stalwart Lee Kernaghan continues to rack up accolades, with his latest being another Golden Guitar Award for Top Selling Country Album.

Kernaghan’s latest album Backroad Nation is his 15th studio LP, and was the highest-selling Aussie country album between January 1 and December 31, 2019.

The award is his 38th Golden Guitar awarded by the Country Music Awards of Australia – a record he now shares with the late Slim Dusty.

Kernaghan ended the year ahead of Amber Lawrence (#2 with ‘Spark’) and Sara Storer (#3 with ‘Raindance’).

Backroad Nation was released in May, 2019 through ABC/UMA and was produced by Lindsay Rimes.

Among its other achievements, the record debuted at #1 on the ARIA Country Album Chart, hit #3 on the ARIA All Genre Album Chart and #1 on the iTunes Country Album Chart.

The record produced two Australian #1 singles on TMN’s Country Airplay Chart; title track ‘Backroad Nation’ and ‘Where I Wanna Be’ ft. Robby X. ‘Wheels’.

The former also reached #1 on the Country Music Channel Chart, while ‘Wheels’ peaked at #3 on the airplay chart.

The Toyota Golden Guitar Awards take place at Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre during the Toyota Country Music Festival on Saturday, January 25.

“There’s no better way to spend your Saturday night at the Toyota Country Music Festival than in the company of some of country music’s biggest stars, enjoying the performances and celebrating this incredible industry,” said Golden Guitar Awards executive producer Peter Ross.
