KLP talks new BMG deal, ‘Energy’ and balancing parenthood
If life is a balancing act, then KLP has it covered.
The Sydney-based musician singer, songwriter and producer juggles her music career with parenthood. And despite the pandemic, KLP enjoyed an action-packed 2020 which yielded a new contract with BMG.
In recent days, KLP (real name Kristy Lee Peters) re-signed with BMG for a global publishing deal, extending a pact she inked in 2018.
A sought-after team-player, KLP has worked alongside the likes of Skrillex, What So Not, The Presets, Set Mo and Slumberjack and enjoyed another smash with ‘Energy,’ a 2020 collaboration with Melbourne-based music man Stace Cadet.
The track came together fortuitously when Stace Cadet, with a few hours to kill, dropped into KLP’s Sydney studios.
They shared ideas, and, under the pressure of time turned it into something “I’m super proud of,” she says in a new video shared by BMG.
‘Energy’ has had bounce all of its own.
Its remixes have accumulated more than 20 million combined plays on Spotify, it was nominated for the ARIA Award for Best Dance Release, came in at No. 21 in triple j’s Hottest 100, hit the summit of ARIA’s Club Chart, and is now certified platinum.

The magic step in her journey “has been having a kid,” she explains. “I have no time to fuck around… no time to be super-indulgent.”
In the clip, KLP also pays tribute to BMG Australia’s Managing Director Heath Johns for taking a punt on her. “Hopefully I can keep delivering,” she enthuses.
BMG last month celebrated its fifth anniversary operating in Australia and New Zealand.
In the years since BMG acquired Alberts to establish an affiliate in these parts, the company has built a roster including Alison Wonderland, Peking Duk, AC/DC, Crowded House, Golden Features, KLP, Running Touch, Client Liaison, Cut Copy, Wolfmother, JET, Kwame, DZ Deathrays, Montaigne, Illy, What So Not, Manu Crooks, Young Franco and SAFIA.
Its recorded roster including Chet Faker, Dope Lemon, Julia Stone, Tim Minchin, Ladyhawke, Dune Rats, Hockey Dad, CHAII and Winston Surfshirt.
