INXS claim top spot on NZ Albums chart

The success of the INXS mini-series in Australia has been mirrored in NZ over the past two weeks, where the band are now riding high on the local charts with The Very Best retrospective collection.

INXS: Never Tear Us Apart has aired in New Zealand on the previous two Thursdays and the TV show has been accompanied by extensive promotion by bandmates Kirk Pengilly and Tim Farriss, who is also executive producer.

The Very Best, originally released in 2011, has climbed to the top of the New Zealand albums chart and marks the band’s first New Zealand #1 album since the release of Kick in 1987, which itself has moved to a #11 chart placing this week. Three of the Top 40 best-selling New Zealand albums last week were INXS titles.

INXS manager and Creative Director/Executive Producer of the television show, CM Murphy says, “We are extremely pleased that the story and music of INXS has resonated so well with New Zealand audiences, which is being reflected in the ratings and the charts! It is also the result of great collaboration with our production partners Shine, broadcast partner TV3, label partner Universal Music and the tireless work ethic of the band.”

The miniseries has so far achieved the highest viewership of any programme this year in Australia, reaching 3 million people. It also resulted in INXS making ARIA chart history with two albums (The Very Best and Kick) sitting at the top of the chart simultaneously.

Alongside the international roll out of the television show, Petrol and Universal Music will release a new INXS special edition vinyl boxed set entitled All The Voices on September 1.

CM Murphy adds, “With the resurgence of vinyl as a physical format, it is the perfect time for fans to enjoy the INXS catalogue in its original form and elegant package.”
