Inertia launches new label imprint

Sydney-based independent label Inertia has announced its new imprint Midnight Feature.

The label is spearheaded by Inertia alumni Mark Dodds, who exited his position as A&R Manager in September to take on the role of international Tour Promoter at the label’s sister company Handsome Tours. Dodds will head up Midnight Feature alongside his role at Handsome Tours.

Inertia has toldTMNMidnight Feature is “dedicated to the exhilarating edges of the pop spectrum."

"Every day I hear Australian music which inspires and challenges me – songs recorded around the block with the capacity to resonate around the world,” Dodds told TMN. “Since pop knows no boundaries, neither should our approach to discovering, cultivating and marketing the country's burgeoning talent. Midnight Feature is born of our desire to work more closely and creatively with artists that excite and provoke us – to give them a global platform worthy of their talents."

Joining Dodds is Inertia ‎Marketing and Promotions Coordinator Amelia Jenner, who moonlights as co-host of electronic music program ‘Body Promise’ on Sydney’s FBi Click.

The label'sfirst signing is Perth pop/R’n’B artist Kučka (pron. Coo-ch-ka) who will release her single Divinity this Friday November 21 ahead of an EP in early 2015.

Earlier this year Kučka, aka Laura Jane Lowther, won Triple J Unearthed’s CoLAB Festival competition, signed to booker Harbour Agency and won three West Australian Music Awards for Best Single, Best Electronic Act and Best Experimental Act. Her vocals were sampled on A$AP Rocky’s December 2012 release Long Live A$AP; the NYC-based rappercame across her music via Perth-born DJ and producer Finatik (Michael Mule).

Midnight Feature joins Inertia Group’s trio of companies: label-services company Inertia, touring company Handsome Tours and film and TV licensing company, Gaga.
