Guvera, Stereosonic, Pandora, Spotify win at Mobies

Australian-designed music streaming service Guvera won in two categories at the 2013 Australian Mobile Awards (The Mobies) in Sydney. Guvera, which streams 10 million tracks on mobile, tablet and web, took gold in the Music and Best Start Up categories.

“We’re delighted that all of the hard work our design team put into developing our iPad app has been recognised and rewarded,” said its GM, Scott Hamilton. “Our iPad app offers an outstanding user interface, delivering a simple, intuitive and engaging experience. Having many positive comments through our social platforms as well as on iTunes, it’s great to know that consumers are equally as positive about the experience.”

The Nightlife section saw a win by the Stereosonic festival for its mobile website; promoters Totem Onelove and Dvize Creative set out to “reposition Stereosonic from the leading music event in Australia, to being one of the biggest music events in the whole world.”

Another win in the section was the City of Perth Video Jukebox App which allowed people to pick from music videos, documentaries and short films in a traditional jukebox style, to screen on the Northbridge Piazza LED big screen.

The radio section saw triumphs by Spotify for its ease in finding new music, Pandora for providing listeners the experience of creating up to 100 “stations” and the ABC Flagship Apps which were re-launched this year as Flipboards for iOS and Android to catch up with competition in social media and new digital entrants.

Mobie winners were determined by a combination of a judging panel, industry and marketplace ratings. Full list here.
