Gang Of Youths blast to U.K. Top 10, Australia No. 1 with ‘Angel in Realtime’: ‘Our puny minds are blown’

Gang Of Youths take flight with Angel in Realtime, which starts at No. 1 in Australia and earns the rockers their first appearance in the U.K. Top 10.

Angel (via Warner Records) debuts at No. 10 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, well ahead of new releases from Beth Hart and Scorpions, for the Gang’s first stint on any of the U.K.’s main charts.

With a U.K. No. 10, the Gang joins an elite crop of Australian rock bands to impact the top tier of this Top 5 global market.

Nick Cave And the Band Seeds, who, like the Gang of Youths are mostly based in Britain, have six Top 10 albums there.

Pop-punk protagonists 5 Seconds of Summer have four Top 10s, two of which hit the summit.

The standard-bearers for Aussie rockers in the U.K. is AC/DC. The Rock And Roll Hall of Famers have ten U.K. Top 10s, with four No. 1s, including their most recent collection, 2020’s Power Up.

Meanwhile, Angel, the band’s third studio album, races to No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

It’s their second leader on the national survey, following 2017’s Go Farther In Lightness, which went on to win four ARIA Awards, including album of the year.

Angel is released via Sony Music in the band’s homeland.

“You’ve all only gone and got Angel in Realtime a Number 1 in Australia and number 10 in the UK!,” reads a social post from the band. “Our puny minds are blown. thank u thank u thank u thank u thank u thank u.”

David Le’aupepe and Co. are currently on the road, supporting the new album with dates across the U.K. and Europe.

Watch the record make its move on U.S. charts when the band heads stateside in late April for a month-long stretch, followed by a return trip to Europe where festivals-land awaits.

Australasian dates are locked in for July and August 2022.

Kurt Bailey, the Gang’s career-long manager, attributes the twin chart feats to hard work and ratcheting up the bar on each project.

“It’s such an honour and privilege to have worked with this band from day 1 and watch them go from strength to strength on every album,” he explains in a social post.

“They are never focused on these kind of achievements like charts but are always driven by making the best art they can possibly make — they have done that and made another master piece. Well done to my brothers and best friends and the awesome team over here that have delivered an incredible result.”
