Chainsmokers’ manager enters JV with Sony/ATV

Former Editor

Sony/ATV Music Publishing and Adam Alpert, manager of New York City DJ/production duo The Chainsmokers, are set to launch a music publishing company.

Selector Songs will have a specific focus on pop and EDM artists and run alongside Alpert’s management company Disruptor Management and record label Disruptor Records, which was created in partnership with Sony Music and distributes through the major as part of a strategic artist development deal.

The partnership follows Sony/ATV and Republic Records’ seven-figure publishing deal with The Chainsmokers, which was inked back in May. According to Billboard, the duo’s ARIA #3 track #SELFIE generated more than US$2 million by May this year.

Alpert cut his teeth running and promoting nightclubs. In 2009, he co-founded DJ/producer management company 4AM.

“Selector Songs will be both a home for the most exciting and established producers, songwriters, and musicians as well as an incubator for the burgeoning talent of the future,” Alpert said in a statement. “Rounding out the one-stop shop of Disruptor Management and Disruptor Records, Selector Songs will focus on long-term artist development and modern recipes for success.”

Martin Bandier, Chairman and CEO, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, added, “Adam Alpert is a clued-up young businessman who has demonstrated with The Chainsmokers that he can turn his extensive knowledge of the dance music world into real commercial success. We at Sony/ATV are excited to now be partnering with him in this new venture and look forward to enjoying more hits together.”
