Bad//Dreems, Allday, Tkay Maidza, win at Fowler’s Live Music Awards

Adelaide-hailed acts making their presence nationally and internationally as Bad//Dreems, Allday and Tkay Maidza had wins at the Fowler’s Live Music Awards in Adelaide. They were held at the Fowler’s Live club last night.

There were 17 peer-voted categories, while over 2,000 cast their votes in the five public-voted categories.

In the peer votes, Bad//Dreems were gonged as SA Songwriter(s) Of The Year and Best Rock Artist.

Other multi-winners included Timberwolf who rated Best Acoustic Artist, and Best Music Video for the highly acclaimed Grace. Truth Corroded took the Metal division, while their co-managers Greg Shaw and Jason North (who also run the Truth Inc record label) trumped Best Music Managers

Also peer rated were Maidza (electronica), Allday (hip hop), Shaolin Afronauts (roots), Sparkspitter (indie) The Beards (pop) and Paper Arms (punk).

The Jam Room took a bow as Best Music Organisation/ Individual. The Porch Sessions, a successful series of gigs held on the porches of homes, was judged the Best Music Initiative.

The Music Association genre triumphs went to Lazy Eye (blues), Sandra Humphries (country) and Ross McHenry (jazz).

McHenry also took Achievement Award for his work as bassist, producer and composer. Music SA’s Industry Development Coordinator Gordon Andersen got a surprise when he was handed one of them on the night as well.

Singer-songwriter Julia Henning, who emerged from the wine-growing area of Willunga with a stunning vocal range and went on to deliver with her debut album Fledgling, won two in the public-voted categories. She was Favourite SA Artist while her single Tempest from earlier this year was acclaimed Favourite SA song of the year.

The public also gave the thumbs up to WOMADelaide (live music event), Governor Hindmarsh Hotel (live music venue) and Rip It Up magazine (music media source).

Awards organiser Peter Darwin, long time promoter and Fowler’s Live owner, said: “It is humbling to see the level of support both within the industry and from the music loving public for the FLMA’s. The event has become a great celebration, and well-deserved recognition for our quality artists.”
