Arts leader Catherine Jones appointed APAM director

Highly respected arts leader Catherine Jones will take over as director of the Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) when it moves to Melbourne from 2020 to 2024.

Currently the general manager at Melbourne’s Arts House, her new role calls for her to come up with events, programs and services to build the profile of performance arts artists and associations in Australia and globally.

Victoria’s minister for creative industries, Martin Foley, described Jones as a leading voice in Australia’s performing arts sector.

“The new APAM office will benefit from Catherine’s extensive networks and her keen understanding of the needs of Australian performing artists and companies,” he said.

Jones has worked two decades in Australia and the UK, in roles ranging from executive producer to business manager to publicist n theatre, dance, performance and music.

Her festival track record included the Melbourne Festival, Queensland’s youth-focused Out of the Box and the Queensland Biennial Festival of Music.

Set up in 1994 by the Australia Council, APAM started out in Canberra, then Adelaide (1998-2012.) and Brisbane (2014-2018).
