Amrap chart wrap: BB Factory and Camp Cope top the community radio charts

Community radio shows a huge amount of support for Australian music, with almost 40% of music played coming from local artists. Taste-making presenters excel at giving airtime to an incredible spread of what Aussie artists have to offer. The Amrap Metro and Amrap Regional Charts provide insight into what’s getting airplay and attention on community radio each week. Here’s the lowdown on some tunes charting this week.

BB Factory– #1 Amrap Regional (pictured above)

Bluesfest is nearly upon us so perhaps it’s no surprise these roots-rockers are at the top of the Amrap Regional charts as rural community radio gets excited. There’s a classic Stax Records feel running through the Gold Coast band’s latest single ‘Blues For You’, a classic-style bittersweet number stomping through its take of heartbreak.

Jaala– #3 Amrap Metro

There’s an awesome push-and-pull to this Melbourne trio’s new track ‘Horn’, with a psychedelic guitar riff that positively drawls and rhythms that slide around with giddy abandon. This is not rock in 4/4 time. Jaala’s sense of time is all their own and at community radio their time is now, hitting the Amrap Metro Chart’s Top 5 with bulk spins from Melbourne’s Triple R, Perth’s 6RTR and Hobart’s Edge Radio. Jaala’s upcoming album Joonya Spirit might well be the sweetest fever dream of 2018.

Shaun Kirk– #7 Amrap Regional

The Victorian bluesman has been a mainstay of the Amrap Regional Top 10 for weeks now with his rugged solo effort ‘Howlin’ At The Moon’. Armed with only his guitar and belting, soulful voice, Mr Kirk is booming loud and clear at Noosa FM, 2EAR-FM on the NSW South Coast and WA’s Voice of the Avon. Produced by Nick Huggins (Jen Cloher, Laura Imbruglia), Kirk’s first album in some years is on the way.

Evelyn Ida Morris– #9 Amrap Metro

Better known as Pikelet, Evelyn Ida Morrismade several albums of crafty avant-pop both clever and catchy under this stage name. She has now emerged under her own name with a most beautiful and searching piano ballad. ‘The Body Appears’ makes for the most singular, affecting listening on the Amrap Metro Charts this week. FBi Radio, Triple R, 6RTR and more are all swooning to this.

Georgia June– #4 Amrap Metro

Hailing from Sydney,Georgia Juneare a hopped-up throwback to the 80s where glistening power-pop melodies ruled the charts. With just their third single ‘Pressure’, they’re ruling the Amrap Metro charts with their sugared-up, synth-washed sound. Radio Adelaide, Brisbane’s 4ZZZ and Sydney’s FBi Radio have been three of the main players making it happen.
