TV Ratings: ‘The Voice’ pulls big numbers over long weekend

Nine’s The Voice Australia continues to battle it out for television’s most lucrative eyeballs.

During the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, The Voice flexed its muscles over two nights.

Overnight (Monday, June 10) it topped 25—54 and 18—49, and ranked at #3 for 16—39s.

On Sunday, The Voice topped all three demos.

Last night it drew 1.019 million overnight metro viewers, the highest rating of all entertainment shows.

Nothing was more obvious when Zimbabwean-born test cricketer turned singer Henry Olonga came unstuck from crippling stage nerves, walking off stage.

With the help of coach Kelly Rowland, he finally shuffled back and nailed ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight?’

The Voice judge Guy Sebastian also appeared on 60 Minutes on Sunday night, with 645,000 viewers tuning in for the show which saw the singer interviewed alongside his wife Jules.

He was pressed about his romantic history with Delta Goodrem, as well as his feud with Iggy Azalea

Meanwhile, rapper and broadcaster Briggs appeared on ABC’s Q&A on Monday night, but the episode failed to place in the Top 20 most-watched shows.

He took the opportunity to reiterate why he recently issued a video explaining line-by-line why the national anthem was disconnected to First Australians.

He revealed he hadn’t stood for the anthem since he was 13, after he’d analysed the implications of the words.

“The song’s not that good, get over it,” he sniffed, adding that Paul Kelly should write a new one.

Monday night also had two other music shows.

Nine screened Motown 60: A Grammy Celebration.

Foxtel Arts channel streamed live Broadway’s night of nights the 73rd Annual Tony Awards from Radio City Music Hall in New York City from 10am and encored at 7.30pm.

Tonight (Tuesday, June 11) sees The Voice return at 7.30, and Andrew Denton’s Interview on Seven at 9 pm.

ABC-TV’s The Recording Studio at 8pm looks at a mother and daughter recording Snow Patrol’s ‘Run’ for their husband/father who’s away overseas for long periods serving in the military.
