WAMAwards 2022: Song of the Year Nominees Unveiled

West Australian association WAM unveiled its 2022 WAMAwards nominees for Song of the Year from over 1,200 entries – equal to its entries last year.

Siobhan Cotchin, Grace Barbé, The Struggling Kings, Natasha Eldridge, Angie Colman, War, Huey Brazadich, Shangrila, South Summit and RATSALAD were among the acts generating multi-nominations.

The WAMAwards winners will be revealed at the awards event in September, where they’ll be taking home a share in $45,000 worth of prizes.

Of the 20 winners from 2021, five came from regional and remote communities, four had First Nations backgrounds, and eleven identified themselves as females or non-binary.

Previous SOTY winners include Stella Donnelly, Beni Bjah, Kučka, Little Birdy, Abbe May, The Waifs and Methyl Ethel.

WAM partners with Healthway to share the Act Belong Commit message for mental and physical health throughout the competition.

In 2022, the Act Belong Commit category returns to provide songwriters an opportunity to explore themes of mental wellness, the journey for an improved lifestyle and the importance of community and connectedness.
