WIN’s Noemi Planas Among Speakers For 2023 Indie-Con Australia

Senior reps from the Worldwide Independent Network, Folk Alliance International and Polyvinyl are among the guest speakers at the 2023 Indie-Con Australia, set for Aug. 2-4 in Adelaide.

Announced today, this year’s edition will span 16 sessions, featuring a mix of panels and workshops.

International speakers include Noemí Planas (CEO at WIN), Neeta Ragoowansi (executive director of Folk Alliance International), Natalie Dávila (Polyvinyl – marketing director), Rob Sevier (co-founder of The Numero Group) and Colin Keenan (ATC Live), with more to come.

More than 70 guest speakers will take the mic at the Mercury Cinema, to “shed light on a range of topics that cater to Australian independent labels and the music industry at large,” reads a statement from organisers AIR.

Indie-Con this year celebrates its seventh edition.

Among the programming highlights — How to navigate the changing DSP landscape and plan new release cycles (with Polyvinyl, The Orchard, Virgin Music & Xelon); extracting the best out of your catalogue releases (with The Numero Group, ABC Music, Spotify and Concord); the pros and cons of industry showcasing (with Folk Alliance International, ATC Live, Sounds Australia, I Oh You & Sundowner Artists) and protecting copyright in the AI era with input from WIN, ARIA, APRA, PPCA and Media Arts Lawyers.

The annual AIR Awards will take place Thursday, Aug. 3, and Indie-Con Australia will be followed by MusicSA’s Scouted, showcasing emerging and unsigned talent from South Australia’s music scene.

As previously reported, recordings by Daniel Johns (Futurenever), Julia Jacklin (Pre Pleasure), King Stingray (King Stingray), Laura Jean (Amateurs) and Northlane (Obsidian) will duke it out for the coveted independent album of year category at the 2023 AIR Awards, set for the Freemasons Hall.

Best independent label is stacked with ABC Music, Chapter Music, Domestic La La, Liberation and UNFD, while independent song of the year will be contested by Cub Sport (“Always Got The Love”), Genesis Owusu (“Get Inspired”), Jen Cloher (“Mana Takatāpui”), Julia Jacklin (“I Was Neon”) and King Stingray (“Camp Dog”).

AIR this year introduces two new industry categories – the independent marketing team of the year and the independent publicity team of the year.
