WAMCon adds 13 more speakers: “Cutting edge research and meaningful advice”

WAMCon as released its second round of speakers, to add to its Dive Into The Future Of Music theme.

WAMCon is held at the State Theatre of WA on Friday, November 2 and Saturday 3.

The latest round includes reps from music industry associations and companies such as triple j, Sounds Australia, 4ZZZ, Way Over There, Perfect Pitch Publishing, Barefoot Bands and Pilerats.

There are also music brains from Queensland University of Technology, the University of Western Australia and Griffith University School of Cultural Research.

Two published professors are added to this year’s program.

Emeritus Professor Alan Harvey (UWA), a neuroscientist, also authored Music, Evolution, and the Harmony of Souls, which explores the importance of music as a driver of interactive behaviour from social and neurological perspectives.

Professor Patrik Wikström (QUT) wrote The Music Industry: Music in the Cloud, which unpacks the immense change facing the music industry with the rise of streaming and other digital media.

PhD candidate Lisa Nikulinsky, a panel facilitator, did research in youth, identity, and popular music culture in regional Australia, and promises to fuel conversations around privilege and the obstacles facing artists growing up in remote communities.

WAMCon coordinator Claire Hodgson said, “This year we’re excited to be presenting a conference program which incorporates cutting-edge research from music academia alongside meaningful advice from a selection of some of the most highly experienced, resourceful and diverse voices in music today.”

“With this new program direction we hope to offer conference-goers two-days of thought-provoking sessions which will provide artists and industry practitioners alike with the knowledge and networks they need to take their music careers to new heights!”
