Vance Joy and Sarah Blasko on track for high debuts this week

The Australian music industry is in for a good charting week, as both Vance Joy and Sarah Blasko’s new records look very likely to debut in the higher reaches of the ARIA chart.

Vance’s sophomore (sorry) album Nation Of Two is on track to debut in the top three, and will be battling Ed Sheeran for the top spot.

Ed is in the country (Australia; your country) this week, but surely everyone in Australia (your country) has that album by now, and streaming alone won’t be enough to beat Vance’s long-awaited follow-up. Like Wayne Campbell said of Frampton Comes Alive: “If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of Tide.”

The Greatest Showman (which has sat at number one for nine weeks now, ‘cos Zac and Hugh) and The Black Panther (‘cos Kendrick, bitch) are the only other serious contenders to the throne.

Sarah Blasko’s elegant, Bjorkish Depth Of Field is set for a top five debut, based on mid-week projections. This will mark her fifth Top Ten record to date, with her debut The Overture and the _ reaching #35 in 2004.

Vance’s debut Dream Your Life Away will also leap back into the charts, most likely into the Top 15. Also bouncing back up is Gang Of Youths, who will again be in the Top 10, most likely due to their recent Sydney City Limits performance.

Augie March will debut in the Top 50 with their fifth album Bootikins; for a dead serious band, they love a silly album title, don’t they?

The charts are released on Saturday around 6pm, unless the Internet breaks or something.
