Uncharted: Sam Smith, Lauv & Drax Project lead the charge to radio

The Easter break has hatched a bunch of tantalising new singles, giving radio MDs plenty to think about. As usual, TMN has gone ahead and selected our top picks for the week, led by UK singer Sam Smith.

Sam Smith ft. Logic – ‘Pray’ (CAP/EMI)

American rapper Logic joins Sam Smith on the new version of ‘Pray’ from the UK star’s latest album The Thrill Of It All. Produced by Timbaland, the result is a sensational, soul-infused, slow jam that is sure to prick the eager ears of commercial. The original version of ‘Pray’ was never released as a single, but peaked at #43 on the Artist Top 50 thanks to strong performances on the Australian iTunes and Spotify charts.

Lauv – ‘Chasing Fire’ (IND)

Following up from smash hit ‘I Like Me Better’ (which peaked at #7 on the TMN Hot 100), independent solo act Lauv is taking another shot at radio glory with his catchy new tune ‘Chasing Fire’. Judging by the success of his recent visit to Australia, local fans are hungrier than ever for the hitmaker.

Drax Project – ‘Woke Up Late’ (UMA)

Drax Project is New Zealand’s next big thing. Following a string of support slots on Ed Sheeran’s recent Aussie tour, the four-piece are sending breakout single ‘Woke Up Late’ to radio. The track has already mustered over two million streams in Australia and will be a hot addition to any commercial playlist.
