Troye Sivan scores US Top 40 single, album
Troye Sivan has simultaneously notched up his first US Top 40 single (Youth) and album (the debut Blue Neighbourhood), while his official YouTube channel has cracked 4 million subscribers since it launched in 2007. His near-150 posted clips have amassed 240 million global views.
His previous EPs TRXYE and Wild made it up to #5.
Blue Neighbourhood flew up the Billboard Hot 100 chart to #23 from #58.
Youth made major inroads in four charts after seven weeks. It has jumped to #23 from #58 in the Hot 100. Meantime, 56,000 downloads of the track saw a 206% leap to #11 from #45 on the Digital Chart, helped in part by iTunes putting it on a 69 cent sale price. It was the highest move on the digital charts.
4.8 million streams of the track, a rise of 8% from the week before, saw it land at #47 in Streaming Songs, and grew by 12.8% to 12.8 million in radio audience.
What has been most celebratedis that he achieved this by not shying away from his sexuality, especially so early in his career. The accompanying Malia James-directed video features cis and queer teen couples making out at a Los Angeles house party (“the type of party that you want to be at”) with extras of cool folks he found on Instagram, some roller skating, actress Amanda Stenberg getting her tongue pierced and the artist in a silver jacket that he borrowed from James’ dad.
