Triple M world’s “most innovative radio station”

Triple M Melbourne has been named the ‘Most Innovative International Radio Station Of The Year’ at the Worldwide Radio Summit Industry Awards

The awards, which were held in Los Angeles on Friday, were the pinnacle of the 4th Annual Worldwide Radio Summit, which ran over three days at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. The event is organised by Sat Bilsa’s A&R Worldwide and radio website AllAccess.com and brings together “some of the most inspiring music and broadcasting minds from all realms of radio”.

Triple M took out the award, beating out 93.5 Red FM in India, as well as three Canadian stations: CIHT-FM, CKFM, and CKMP.

We asked the head of the Triple M Network, Mike Fitzpatrick, a few questions this morning in the wake of his station’s impressive victory.

What elements of Triple M do you feel got you over the line?

Our unique position. As far as I can tell, no-one else in the world does a Rock, Sport, Comedy and News format. I just spent three days at Radio Days Europe talking about rebuilding Triple M. There’s nothing like us in Europe.

Our [fan club] Music Jury as well. It’s one of the most engaged fan communities in the world. The Music Jurors are more than just profiles for research purposes, they’re real brand ambassadors who care about Triple M.

As the most innovative radio station in the world, what was your personal highlight at the station in 2013?

Hard to pick just one. The Hot Breakfast going #1 [to all people 10+]. The Double drive [3pm-5pm and 5pm-7pm] idea paying off – we’ve dominated 25-54 males with that offering.

The ratings success of Triple M Football. Triple M Melbourne’s social engagement: our figures are streets ahead of our competitors. We’re all about engagement, not dumb fat-fingered ’likes’.
