Another big week for Tones And I with Kobalt deal and ‘Ellen’ set

Anyone who thought that Tones And I’s 2019 success might have been a flash in the pan will be eating their words.

The Aussie artist continued to kick goals both locally and overseas this past week.

Toni Watson signed an international neighbouring rights deal with Kobalt on Friday, who will now provide her catalogue with global administration to maximise royalty earnings.

“The rise of Tones And I and her single ‘Dance Monkey’ has been both ubiquitous and chart topping, but when you consider songs such as “Never Seen The Rain” and “Johnny Run Away”, the true depth of talent becomes apparent and it is easy to see that the future will be both bright as well as enduring!” said Kobalt managing director Simon Moor.

Kobalt represents over 2,000 performers including A$AP Rocky, The Chainsmokers, Dua Lipa, Lewis Capaldi, Lil Wayne, Sia, Young Thug and more.

“We’re absolutely pumped to be working with Kobalt on the neighbouring rights front!” said co-managers Regan Lethbridge, David Morgan and Jackson Walkden-Brown.

“Our detailed discussions leading up to doing this deal really reinforced for us that they’re the best in the business when it comes to this relatively complex and evolving income stream.

“They’re exceptionally passionate about Tones and we’re very confident that this will be a long and fruitful relationship.”

Ann Tausis, CEO of Kobalt Neighbouring Rights added; “I am so very pleased that Tones and her team have partnered with us for the collection of neighbouring rights.

“More and more global artists are becoming aware of this important revenue stream that has lots of rules and exceptions affecting who gets paid and where.

“It’s complex. Tones and I is the latest global star to recognize this area and our years of expertise will ensure she receives the income due to her across the globe.”

Whilst on her current tour of the US, Tones stopped by Ellen for another US television performance. A standing ovation followed.

The performance comes shortly after Tones was celebrated for ‘Dance Monkey’ breaking the billion streams mark.

She joined APRA AMCOS’ prestigious 1,000,000,000 List, with her ARIA-scooping 2019 viral hit officially the fastest Australian song to reach the billion mark.

Apple has since revealed several mind-blowing records that Tones has broken on its Shazam platform.

‘Dance Monkey’ is Shazam’s longest ever Global #1 song, with 23 weeks on the spot. It’s also the only song ever to be Shazamed more than a million times in a single week, a feat it achieved in 16 consecutive weeks.

The track is also the most-Shazamed song in a single day, on October 12 2019.

‘Dance Monkey’ also reached the #1 spot on the most Shazam national charts out of any songs, reaching the summit of the chart in over 50 countries.
