TMN celebrates two decades in this ever-shifting music industry by taking a look back at the key moments – both triumphant and tumultuous – in the Australian music business.

1999
CHUGG SPLITS FROM FRONTIER AND FORMS MICHAEL CHUGG ENTERTAINMENT
While the headline may make the situation appear more fractious than was the case, Chugg’s decision to leave Frontier – the touring company he formed with Michael Gudinski in 1979 – and strike out on his own, caused a big ripple in the Australian touring landscape. Michael Chugg Entertainment hit the ground running, promoting 19 international artist tours within its first year, with another five Australian tours to boot. The pair teamed up again in March 2009 for the Sound Relief benefit concerts, which raised funds for those affected by the previous month’s bushfires, which raged through Victoria. Chugg and Gudinski maintain a good, but competitive relationship, with Chugg telling TMN in 2010: “There was never really a hatchet to bury.”
