TMN Hot 100 of 2013: the most heard songs at Australian radio

The year has almost drawn to a close and what a crazy one it’s been. We’ve seen some huge songs come and go, a number of wildly varying genres dominate the charts, and now that commercial radio have locked off their playlists for the year, we’ve compiled the definitive year-end Hot 100 to settle all your bets. It’s great to see an Australian artist leading the way.

Perth lads Birds Of Tokyo took out the top spot with Lanterns, followed very closely (there were only three points in it) by Bruno Mars’ Police-esque Locked Out Of Heaven. The two tracks had a great start to the year, with lengthy runs; both were commercial radio mainstays for most of 2013, with both entries remarkably still in the Hot 100 at #71 and 73, respectively. Labrinth’s sweeping Beneath Your Beautiful came in at #3, while The Lumineers stomping hit Ho Hey and Pink’s Just Give Me A Reason make up the rest of the Top 5.

Daft Punk’s killer robot disco track Get Lucky triumphed over Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines in the end (the two tracks will forever be linked due to Pharrell’s appearance on both, their breezy disco sound, and their interesting tussle for the top of the charts) as they took out #7 and 8. It was quite a battle, not that Pharrell Williams minded too much of course.

The next Aussies down the list are the good ol’ Stafford Brothers’ Hello featuring Lil Wayne & Christina Milian at #13 – they’re also the highest placed dance act to appear in the Hot 100 – which, in this EDM-saturated market, is quite a feat.
