Teenage Fanclub announce Australian headline tour

PRESS RELEASE:

Scottish five-piece Teenage Fanclub will return to Australia in March 2017 for their very first headline shows since 2005. Widely recognised as masters of alternative rock/pop, the Scottish outfit will play two headline dates in Brisbane and Melbourne, with tickets on sale Friday 28th October. While in the country they’ll also perform at the already announced Golden Plains festival, plus a Sydney date at Taronga Zoo.

Teenage Fanclub return following the release of their acclaimed 10th studio album Here, out now on the band’s own PeMa label/Warner Music Australia. Three decades of peerless songwriting and almost telepathic musicianship between founding members Norman Blake, Raymond McGinley and Gerard Love, plus drummer Francis MacDonald and keyboard player Dave McGowan, means Here more than makes up for a six-year wait for new music.

‘The band’s subtlest, warmest release to date and also one of their strongest’Pitchfork

‘An utterly spellbinding record that shows with maturity that the band only grows and improve’ – The Quietus

Hazy guitars, upbeat drums and three voices across 12 tracks – four each by Blake, Love and McGinley, including the single I’m In Love – show that Teenage Fanclub continue to push their boundaries, three decades in. Formed in 1989, Teenage Fanclub famously broke through with their iconic third album Bandwagonesque, featuring the classics such as The Concept, What You Do To Me and Alcoholiday. That record beat out Nirvana’s Nevermind for SPIN’s 1991 Album Of The Year (they later toured with the grunge gods). Ever since, they’ve built a loyal audience with a steady release of music that’s solidified their position as songcraft royalty, including LPs such as Grand Prix (1995), Songs From Northern Britain (1997), Howdy! (2000), Mad-Made (2005), and 2010’s Shadows.

Joining Teenage Fanclub at Brisbane and Sydney shows is Aussie three-piece The Goon Sax, who released their debut album Up To Anything earlier this year. Tracks such as the title track and Sweaty Hands capture the quirky perfection of the band, who just returned from their first international tour.

With 10 albums and arguably their best release yet in Here, fans are encouraged to act fast to avoid missing out!
