Sycco named as Apple Music’s latest Up Next Local artist
Brisbane pop upstart Sycco has been announced as the next Australian artist to feature in Apple Music’s Up Next program.
Sycco, who took out Song of the Year at the 2021 Queensland Music Awards for her track ‘Dribble’, will join the likes of fellow Australian artists KYE, Kedus, Budjerah and Peach PRC to be spotlighted in the program.
As well as being featured across Apple Music’s Australian Up Next playlist, Sycco has been announced as the current cover star of the streaming platform’s FIRST playlist, and was also recently promoted as Apple Music’s ‘New Artist Of The Week’ across several other editorial playlists.
The announcement comes alongside the arrival of Sycco’s new single ‘Past Life’, with the young Brisbane artist revealing the creative process behind her new release.
“I wrote ‘Past Life’ a while ago in a session with Lucianbomkamp (the first time we met). We wrote it quickly – the finished version is pretty close to the first writing demo,” Sycco said.
“I like that this one shows my pop side but is still a different sort of psychedelic character! It’s a song about having a deep connection with someone, so deep that you think you have met before in another life.”
An in-house editorial initiative, the Apple Music Up Next program aims to identify and spotlight some of the best new talents to emerge around the globe, with the program expanding to Australia in March.
Previous artists to have been featured in the program include Megan Thee Stallion, Juice WRLD, Amy Shark, Billie Eilish and Dean Lewis.
