Double J slips in second DAB+ survey, but still #1 in Melbourne

Charts & New Music Editor

GfK has released the second DAB+ Survey results of 2017, showing cumulative audience numbers for each station. Survey 2 sees a unique #1 digital station in each city.

After being crowned Australia’s #1 digital radio station in the first DAB+ Survey of 2017, Double J has slipped by over 20,000 listeners nationally. The station slumped in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth –the biggest being Brisbane with a drop of 8,000 – while experiencing slight boosts in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Nevertheless, Double J remains the #1 station in Melbourne with closest competitor AUSSIE sitting 10,000 viewers behind. Growth is seen in the morning session across the country while the breakfast slot continues its struggle to pull listeners.

Sydney has the most digital radio listeners with 514,000 –a substantial rise of 27,000 since the previous survey. This is accredited to significant jumps by a number of stations including Easy Radio and most ABC stations, not offset by the 18,000 drop experienced by SCA’s digital radio station BUDDHA.

Edge Digital is again the #1 digital station in the city with a total audience of 83,000 in the 10+ category. iHeartRadio’s 90s station shares the top spot in Adelaide with BUDDHA, while Coles Radio remains dominant as ever in Brisbane.

Since the first DAB+ broadcast in 2009, this is the second time that audience numbers for all DAB+ only stations have been released one week after the official metropolitan GfK radio ratings.
