SOTD: Louis Tomlinson’s ‘Two Of Us’ is a poignant ode to his late mother
‘Two Of Us’, the first cut off Louis Tomlinson’s forthcoming debut album, captures the most intricate musical and lyrical display we’ve seen from the One Direction member so far.
Landing at #2 on TMN’s Singles To Radio chart, ‘Two Of Us’ was written about Tomlinson’s mother who passed away from leukaemia in 2016. The mournful story is accompanied by stripped-back keys, pronounced drums and a hearty vocal performance.
“I just feel like musically, I almost needed to get this song off my chest,” Tomlinson said. “People say writing is a part of therapy and in a way, I feel like I’d been avoiding writing this song because I knew I only had one chance to get it right.”
Tomlinson, who recently signed to Arista Records, has released a handful of singles since his solo career began over two years ago.
2017’s ‘Back To You’ ft. Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals peaked at #13 on the TMN Hot 100 and is his best performing at radio to date. Tomlinson is the only 1D member (including ZAYN) who is yet to break the Top 10 on the Hot 100.
Along with the singer’s 2016 collab with Steve Aoki ‘Just Hold On’ (#19 Hot 100), Tomlinson has accumulated over one billion streams as a solo artist.
