Sony/ATV extends deal with Jamie Scott, the man behind 1D, Niall Horan, Rag‘n’Bone Man hits
Sony/ATV Music Publishing has extended its worldwide deal with British hit songwriter, artist and producer Jamie Scott.
Scott has been behind some of the biggest international hits in Australia in recent times.
The new deal covers future works as well as hits familiar locally including Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’ featuring Justin Bieber and MØ as well as hits for One Direction, Niall Horan, Rag‘n’Bone Man, Enrique Iglesias and Olly Murs.
Sony/ATV UK managing director and president, Worldwide Creative Guy Moot said: “Jamie Scott is a true melodic genius and a songwriter who develops hits constantly with a real understanding of the artist.
“He has a unique perspective of what it means to be a new artist, with a compassion for and an understanding of where they come from.”
Sony/ATV UK Head of A&R David Ventura added: “Jamie is undeniably one of the most talented songwriters I have ever met.
“His songs travel across the world and this reflects his extraordinary talent.
“It is an honour and a privilege to work with Jamie and his manager Rick Wilson. All of us at Sony/ATV look forward to continuing to be a part of his successes.”
Scott said: “I’m so grateful that Guy and the great team at Sony/ATV have given me so much support over the last few years.
“I’m excited for the years ahead and for all that we can achieve together.”
Scott’s close association with One Direction resulted in him featuring on the writing credits of all five of the group’s global-conquering albums.
Along the way he’s helped to create some of their most-loved and successful songs, such as the RIAA-certified triple-platinum smash ‘Story Of My Life’ (double platinum in Australia), UK and Australian chart-topper ‘Drag Me Down’ and the Top 10 hits ‘Perfect and ‘Night Changes’.
Since One Direction’s hiatus at the end of 2015, he has continued to work with group member Niall Horan.
This included co-writing his debut solo hit ‘This Town’, which reached #9 in the UK, #5 in Australia where it went platinum, and made the US Top 20.
To date, the track has been streamed more than 200 million times on Spotify.
He also co-penned Horan’s current single ‘Too Much To Ask’ and both songs feature on the 1D member’s first solo album Flicker, which in October debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart in the US.
Rag‘n’Bone Man’s debut album Human, which Scott executive-produced, reached Top 3 in Australia and Germany, went to #1 in France, as well as being last year’s second biggest seller in the UK (750,000 units) after it became the fastest-selling debut album by a male solo artist this decade.
After being a highlight at Splendour in the Grass this year, Rag’n’Bone Man returns toAustralia in 2018 for Bluesfest and a number of headliner dates.
Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’ which Scott co-wrote, topped the charts in Australia and Canada, and peaked at #2 in Germany and France.
It reached #2 in the US where it sold three million copies, and also went to #1 in the UK where it sold over 1 million.
He also co-wrote and features alongside Romy Dya on the Martin Garrix andDavid Guetta single ‘So Far Away’, which was released at the beginning of this month.
Among the many other acts he has worked with are 5 Seconds of Summer, Colbie Caillat, Ella Henderson, Hurts, Michael Kiwanuka, Tom Odell, Christina Perri, Ron Sexsmith, The Vamps, Jessie Ware and Rudimental whose next single was co-written by him.
