Sony Music Publishing launches well-being hotline for songwriters

Sony Music Publishing has launched Songwriter Assistance, a new program offering counselling and wellness resources to its global roster of songwriters and composers.

From February 1, its publishing roster gets 24/7 access to free and confidential counselling support via global hotlines as well as ongoing counselling services for emotional health matters such as stress, anxiety, depression, and family or relationship challenges.

“We are committed to providing you with services that matter,” chairman and CEO Jon Platt said.

“You will also have unlimited access to customised resources to help tackle daily responsibilities, from researching childcare/eldercare options to budgeting for major life events, and more.”

The new initiative follows the launch of Sony Music Entertainment’s own wellness-focused program, Artist Assistance, in September.

It was an expansion of SME’s Artists Forward initiative, which counted its acclaimed Legacy Unrecouped Balance Program as its flagship.

It disregards unrecouped balances going forward for qualifying songwriters.

Legacy Unrecouped Balance was extended to songwriters in July.

SMP said Songwriter Assistance is a continuation of its efforts to break the stigma around mental health and wellness with its Soundtrack Of Mental Health program, launched alongside Silence The Shame last March.

The Soundtrack of Mental Health is a multi-year program that offers a wide range of workshops for self-care including coping techniques, stress and anxiety management, and a wellness curriculum for leaders.

Silence The Shame plans to train 10,000 creatives, musicians, and executives by 2023.

“The importance of wellness cannot be overstated, and with Songwriter Assistance, we look forward to offering a whole new level of care and support,” Platt said.

Australian songwriters and composers can call 1-800-730-931.

For non-emergency requests for counselling support or assistance, request a call back by sending an e-mail to SMPSongwriters@CCAinc.com.
