Ticketmaster trials Verified Fan scheme in Australia with Snow Patrol
Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation are testing the Verified Fan scheme with Snow Patrol’s one-off show at the Melbourne Palais Theatre on August 2.
Ticketmaster introduced it in America about a year ago, and more recently launched it in Europe.
The ticketing company initiated it in response to scalper bots scooping up huge tickets when they go on sale to re-sell at inflated prices.
Under the system, fans registered ahead of time. Ticketmaster technology then verifies each entry as real human beings.
Fans must register for the presale here prior to 10pm on Sunday May 20.
Those successful will be notified by email and given a one-time access code to unlock access to the tickets prior to the presale opening on Wednesday May 23 at 2pm.
General tickets will then go on sale on Friday May 25 at 2pm.
Registration with Verified Fan does not guarantee that a fan will get a ticket just because they enter.
“Helping our artists ensure their tickets get into the hands of their biggest fans is hugely important to us,” said Live Nation Australia chairman Michael Coppel.
“Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan is the most sophisticated technology of its kind in the market today to help us do that.
“Snow Patrol join over 80 artists globally who have used the product to support their tour and get tickets directly into the hands of fans.”
“Ticketmaster’s innovative fan-first Verified Fan technology has had huge success globally in limiting the secondary ticketing market,” added Ticketmaster Australia managing director Maria O’Connor.
This should be the first of many campaigns working with artists and promoters in the market to ensure tickets are going into the hands of genuine fans, and not bots or scalpers.”
Ticketmaster Verified Fan has backed more than 80 tours by artists including Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Pearl Jam, Ed Sheeran, LCD Soundsystem, Depeche Mode, Katy Perry, and Harry Styles using the product to gets tickets directly to fans.
Ticketmaster reports that Verified Fan has sold three million tickets and saved fans more than $100 million relative to what they would have spent on the secondary market.
