Can Louis Tomlinson match 1D bandmates’ chart success?

In this week’s Australian Singles Report, the Hot 100 experiences a quick turnover at the top, another 1D member is vying for glory, while an Aussie favourite stands tall at radio.

Vance Joy has dropped new single ‘Lay It On Me’, and after an extended spell away from the game, the ’Riptide’ singer has quicklyreminded the world of his songwriting pedigree.

‘Lay It On Me’ was added across the board to all the major networks including Nova and the ACE Radio network, as well as both KIIS stations and the Ash London LIVE show.

It was a no-brainer for the Hit network’s Head of Music and Entertainment Partnerships, Irene Hulme, who wasted no time playlisting the song to the network.

“Hard to believe considering the strength of his previous hits, but Vance just keeps getting better,” she said. “This is a mighty song with an infectious hook that sticks in your head from the first listen.”

Joy is the first Australian artist to be crowned Most Added To Radio since Peking Duk’s ‘Fake Magic’ ft. AlunaGeorge accomplished the feat.

While Ed Sheeran and The Chainsmokersjointly locked down the Hot 100 for the first half of 2017, the last two weeks have produced two unique #1s.

Coinciding with One Direction’s seventh anniversary, Niall Horan’s one-week reign comes to an end at the hands of bandmate Liam Payne. Up from #4, ‘Strip That Down’ ft. Quavo dethrones Horan’s ‘Slow Hands’, which settles at #2 this week.

Louis Tomlinson has stolen some of the limelight this week, however, with second solo single ‘Back To You’ ft. Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals.

The track follows Tomlinson’s previous single ‘Just Hold On’, a collaboration with Steve Aoki, which was released in December last year and peaked on the Hot 100 at #19 a month later.

With his 1D bandmates charting well in the Hot 100, it is yet to be seen if Louis’ efforts will be as well received. In fact, Tomlinson is the only member (or previous member) of the boy band yet to earn a Top 10 single on the Hot 100.
