Seven confirms Big Music Quiz cast, premiere date

Seven Network this morning confirmed that its The Big Music Quiz will premiere the Sunday after the Olympics, and unveiled its celebrity cast.

Musicians including Clare Bowditch, Ella Hooper, Dave Gleeson, Kate Ceberano, Dami Im and Russell Morris join celebrities include Andrew O’Keefe, Kris Smith, Lawrence Mooney, Melanie Vallejo, Bindi Irwin, Joel Creasey, Anthony Albanese, Manu Feildel and Lucy Durack.

Eight celebrities will appear in each episode, either solo or as part of a team, in a race to show off their knowledge of popular music from all eras and genres in six rounds.

The Big Music Quiz is produced by Endemol Shine Australia, and hosted by former The Voice host Darren McMullen. He says, “It’s been a while since we had this genre of show on Australian television. It really is a lot of fun and I think that will translate to the living room.

“The entire family can play along at home trying to beat each other or our celebrities and have a big laugh while they’re at it. Maybe the loser does the dishes?!”

Round 1 (The Warm Up): Team captains are chosen after eight guest panellists identify a series of well known songs within 20 seconds, with the two with the highest scores the leaders.

Round 2 (The Unlikely Covers): Teams have 30 seconds to identify the original artists of covers performed by live guests ranging from a sitar player to a 11-year-old guitar prodigy to crazy internet wanna-bes and some panellists themselves.

Round 3 (Headphone Heroes): Examines how singing with headphones is really different from how someone really sings is put the test with cutie kids from TV, grown-ups with no singing inhibitions and guest panellists.

Round 4 (Personal Playlist): Teams guess the name of the artists in a themed segment which takes musical inspiration from one, or some, of panellists. The game is played as a team, however, all of the panellists can score points for their team if they get the correct answer.

Round 5 (Twisted Tunes): In the final team round, a panellist from each team goes head- to-head to identify the original artist. To make things more difficult, the songs have been twisted… sped up, slowed down, even reversed!

Round 6 (The Final): The winning team now play as individuals in rapid fire, themed music rounds to determine The Big Music Quiz champion. Each player has 60 seconds to guess as many of the original artists as possible in themes ranging from The 80s, Rock Riffs and Australian Songbook to Pop Princesses, Power Ballads and Sexy Songs. The panellist with the highest score is crowned Champion for the night. The losing team closes the show with a loser’s dance.
