Samsung Music Hub to continue in Australia

Former Editor

Samsung Electronics is ending its Music Hub service on July 1 in all territories excluding Australia.

The decision, made Saturday, came three years after its launch. The multinational retailer pulled the plug on the proprietary music streaming service and its e-book service overseas, citing low consumer traction.

The statement reads: “Samsung Music Hub in Australia has been developed for this country and for Australian customers. It is a separate platform from other music channels offered in other overseas markets. Samsung Electronics Australia remains committed to Samsung Music Hub in Australia and providing an amazing music experience through our products. We currently have no plans to discontinue Samsung Music Hub in this country.”

While the shutdown will not affect Australia, the overseas Samsung Hub boasts just three services: education, video and gaming in its multimedia content store.

Internationally, GalaxyS4 users can continue to use the Samsung Hub, however those using the Galaxy S5 users have only been granted access to the streaming services as individual apps.
