SA Music Hall of Fame to induct Jim Keays posthumously

The South Australian Music Hall of Fame will induct Jim Keays of the Master’s Apprentices posthumously on July 11.

Keays who was born in Glasgow, grew up in the Adelaide suburb of Burnside and moved with the band to Melbourne in 1967.

Radio executive David Day, who set up the Hall of Fame, rang Keays a week before he died when he was in hospital. Keays told him, “I’d love to come. The only reason I won’t be in Adelaide is if I’m dead.”

Two members of the early Masters, Mick Bower and Brian Vaughton, will also be inducted on the night at the Goodwood Institute, along with John Swan and Johnny Mac OAM. Keays, who passed away aged 67 on June 13, will be farewelled this Friday at a service open to the public.
