Reclink Community Cup Gets Six-Figure Tip For Music
As Melbourne kicked off the 2022 Reclink Community Cup charity football match on Sunday, Victoria’s Andrews Labor Government made a last-minute announcement.
It provided a $100,000 funding boost to cover its live music line-up and production costs.
Performers were Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, a nine-piece Afro-Cuban ensemble, party-punk band Private Function (who brought on Daddy Cool’s Ross Wilson for a punked-up ‘Eagle Rock’), neo-soul trio Izy and punchy all-female Parsnip.
“The Reclink Community Cup showcases the best of Victoria’s community spirit with music and footy coming together to raise money for a great cause,” said Minister for Creative Industries Danny Pearson.
“This new funding ensures that support from Victorians will go to those who need it most, while backing our amazing live music industry.”
Reclink Australia runs sports, recreation and arts programs for people experiencing mental illness, family violence, social isolation, homelessness gambling harm, unemployment, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
The state government already supports Reclink with more than $8.5 million for programs including ActiVIC, which offers opportunities to people experiencing barriers to participating in sport and recreation, Move The Dial with a focus on engaging young people, and AAA Play, which promotes activities for people with a disability.
Reclink Australia CEO Dave Wells commented on yesterday’s match, “It’s great to be back at Victoria Park and re-connect with our fabulous community music and sport family.
“Days like today are vital for our souls, hearts, health, and minds – and for the work Reclink does with some of the most disadvantaged Victorians.”
The Cup began in 1993, now attracting more than 12,000 people.
Community radio stations 3RRR and 3PBS’s Megahertz team won over the music industry’s Rockdogs 7.6.48 to 7.4.46.
The radio team was Breakfasters Daniel Burt, Monique Sebire and Bobby Macumber, Breakfast Spread’s Milo Eastwood, Homebrew’s Maddy Mac, and Respect The Rock’s Nicole Tadpole under captains Chris Gill and MzRizk.
The Rockdogs included Felix Riebl (The Cat Empire), Liam Mcgorrie (Ex-Olympian / Dorsal Fins), Gracey Gibson (Blonde Revolver), Henry Jenkins (Karate Boogaloo), and Zoë Fox, Scott Darlow and Bec Goring.
