The Beths Sign to Concord Music Publishing ANZ

New Zealand power-pop favourites The Beths are now part of the Concord Music Publishing roster.
Announced Tuesday, March 25, the Auckland band will be represented on a worldwide basis, through a new deal struck with Concord Music Publishing ANZ.
With three albums to their credit and spots on major tours and festivals, including Coachella, The Beths have the music world at their feet.
Led by vocalist and songwriter Liz Stokes, The Beths formed in 2014, dropped the Warm Blood EP in 2016 and shared their debut full-length album Future Me Hates Me in 2018.
The band followed it up with 2020’s Jump Rope Gazers and, in the same year, became the first New Zealand act to share in the Levi’s Music Prize, following their outstanding performances at Bigsound.
Then, in 2022, The Beths stepped out again with a third studio album in 2022, Expert in a Dying Field.
“Our catalogue doubled between the first and second album,” Stokes told Rolling Stone AU/NZ on the release of Expert. “The first album was so succinct and then we allowed ourselves more wiggle room on the second one. With this one, the small changes didn’t feel huge, they just felt like little explorations from very much the same band.”
All songs on the album were written by Liz, with the exception of “Change in the Weather”, which featured a chorus melody from guitarist Jonathan Pearce.
Through the hard slog of coast-to-coast touring, and the cut through of their bright, jangly power-pop songs, The Beths forged a connection with fans in the United States, the world’s biggest recorded music and touring market.
One of those fans is former president Barack Obama, who listed their single “Watching The Credits” on his 2023 summer playlist.
“The Beths have been a longtime favourite across our global team, so it’s been fun welcoming them to the family,” comments Jaime Gough, managing director, Concord Music Publishing ANZ.
“In a world of great music, it is the deft lyricism and unique turn of phrase penned by the wondrous Liz Stokes that sets The Beths apart. We’re excited for what’s to come for the band.”
To celebrate the new deal, The Beths perform at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel this Thursday, Crowbar Sydney on Friday, and return to the US next month for a show April 16th at LA’s Largo at the Coronet.
The Beths are managed by Look Out Kid, booked in North America by TBA Agency, by ATC Live for the UK and Europe, Select Music for Australia and 100% Good for New Zealand.
For recordings, The Beths are signed to Ivy League Records for ANZ and Carpark Records for the rest of the world.
Concord Music Publishing ANZ was formed in August 2022 when Concord acquired the Australia-based music publisher Native Tongue. Led by Gough, the publishing firm is headquartered in Melbourne with staff in Sydney and Auckland.
