Private Function sign deal with Spanish label FOLC Records
Melbourne punks Private Function have signed with Spanish label FOLC Records, following the release of their 2020 album, Whose Line Is It Anyway?
In the lead-up to the album’s release, the band signed to the new label Damaged, backed by Caroline Australia.
In addition to the signing news, the band have also shared the video for their track ‘Sleep Paralysis’ and announced a livestream of their forthcoming Christmas-themed Melbourne Music Week show, hosted on Bandcamp.
“This will be the greatest livestream performance of all time and is guaranteed to bring the entire concept of live performances, streamed or otherwise, into complete disrepute,” the band said in a statement.
“Now, we know what you’re thinking. ‘Livestream? Isn’t that just what bands you wouldn’t go see anyway playing acoustic guitars in their bedroom?’ Well, with this show you’ve got the PF Guarantee of no acoustic guitars and entertainment above and beyond anything else you’ll see online.”
Whose Line Is It Anyway? debuted in the top 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
Speaking to TMN earlier this year, band manager Cara Williams explained how they hit their goals with their unorthodox promo cycle, which included regular fan engagement and questionable album art.
“The band’s small but formidable team were ultimately instrumental in them making the charts. Label (and many times emotional) support came in spades from their newfound indie label Damaged, which gave the band total creative freedom in terms of the campaign creative and roll-out,” she wrote.
“The combination of these marketing efforts and constant fan engagement was the overall catalyst for the band receiving such a high ARIA debut, and when the news of their ARIA entry broke, those fans who had spent the past few months watching the campaign unfold were just as thrilled as the band.”
