ORiGiN signs multi-ARIA winner Joseph Tawadros to publishing deal
Sydney-based ORiGiN has signed four-time ARIA winner and world music composer Joseph Tawadros AM to a publishing deal.
Regarded as one of the world’s leading oud performers, Tawadros was born in Cairo and moved with his family to Sydney when he was three years old.
Nominated for Young Australian of the Year in 2014, Tawadros received the NSW Premier’s medal for Arts and Culture in the same year and received the Order of Australia Medal (AM) in 2016 for services to music and composition.
His style of playing fuses the Arabic Maqam system with Western jazz and improvisation.
His genre-jumping collaborations have been with Kate Miller-Heidke, Katie Noonan, Zakir Hussain, Neil Finn, Roy Ayers, Joey DeFrancesco, Sultan Khan, John Patitucci, Jack DeJohnette and Richard Bona.
In 2019 he will present his Concerto for Oud & Orchestra with Sydney Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras.
This follows performances in Australia and Japan this year with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and his own band.
Currently based in London, he regularly tours Europe, America, Asia and the Middle East.
After contributing to the Ali’s Wedding soundtrack album last year, his 14th album The Bluebird, The Mystic and The Fool was released in April.
