Merrick’s back

We last caught Merrick Watts just as his new show Merrick and Australia was about to kick off. With a number of months under his belt we catch up with him for a wrap of how it is going. How has he made the transition from laughs to tackling serious topics? His sandbox is a little different to other offerings on FM… it’s a crowded space and we find out what make his show tick. And what is the one thing that all of the competing drive shows have experienced that most others haven’t? “Everyone single one of them ….knows what it is like to be the leader of their game.” This is Merrick’s back.

All its Splendour with triple j

To many it’s a winter pilgrimage, SplendourIn The Grass and triple j was knee deep in it over three days. triple j has collected over 36 hours of content, including artist interviews, music news, 43 live sets and hundreds of front row and backstage pics from artists like Mark Ronson, Florence + the Machine, Blur, Tame Impala,Tkay Maidza,The Wombats, Peking Duk, Alison Wonderland,Alpine and Flight Facilities. Tickets to ACRAson sale

Time to dust off that frock or dinner suit. Commercial radio’s night of nights is close. Ok, the 27th ACRAs and National Radio Conference is in October but tickets for both are on sale today.

The 27th ACRAs will be held on Saturday the 10 October at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre with the National Radio Conference taking place the day before, on Friday the 9th at Jupiters. More than 1200 radio industry insiders attend the ACRAs each year for a sit down dinner, a drink, live entertainment, a drink and presentation of awards across the 33 categories.

Old skool is in

hit1041 2Day FM has been redefining its music position in Sydney over the last two or so months. First it was RnB Friday’s and from tomorrow Old Skool Mondays kick in.

RadioToday asked 2Day CDIrene Hulmefor the lowdown:“2DAYFM's RnB Fridays have been incredibly successful, we are getting an extraordinary amount of positive feedback and it continues to build week to week.”

So why the move with Old Skool?

“I wanted to create something similar to start the week that would generate the same level of talk and tune in interest, '2DAYFM's Old Skool Mondays' start this Monday, 3 hours of Old Skool from 9 every week following Dan & Maz.

Steve Brown joins SCA

Steve Brown is joining Southern Cross Austereo as its Director of Digital Sales and Operations.

His leadership role is about growing digital sales, driving programmatic and supporting key partnerships. Steve has worked in media for over ten years with ARN and Nova Entertainment and the US with Clear Channel. For the last five years he has worked with a number of companies in the digital space including fronting digital development with Australia’s largest media company, News Corp.
