Meet the new Communications Minister

With Malcolm Turnbull now PM, he had to resign his post as Communication Minister. So today with the ministerial reshuffle, Malcolm appointed Victorian Senator Mitch Fifield as the new Communications Minister.

Mitch was Assistant Minister for Social Services and also happened to be a key supporter of Malcolm Turnbull challenging Tony Abbott for the Liberal leadership.

Mitch will be facing a few challenges in the new role, including the active push by some players who want the government to remove rules limiting their population reach and the rules limiting media ownership to two out of three forms of media. In addition, the rollout of DAB+ services to regional markets.

Joan Warner, CEO of Commercial Radio Australia said: “CRA congratulates Minister Fifield on his appointment and we look forward to working closely with him.

“Broadcast radio plays a vital role in metropolitan and regional areas with the provision of local news and local emergency services information, the commercial radio industry will work with Minister Fifield to ensure all Australians continue to have access to robust and reliable, free, live and local commercial radio”.

Twitter gives fans the power

Reece Mastin is back and before you go care factor – zip. His label actually did something unique tied around Twitter and radio, without the station even needing to spin a single track.

Friday morning Reece surfaced on Kyle and Jackie O show, telling fans that they will be able to choose the first official single from his new album Change Colours, which is out in a few weeks.

The tactic is being driven through Twitter from day one. Being Reece's first album in three years, he will be previewing a different song from the album each day exclusively on his own Twitter account. Reece’s label, The Social Family Records are saying it is a world first for an artist.

For ARN’s side of things, it aligns to their dedicated Twitter Green room strategy, which also has the upside of seeing which of Reece’s tracks performs best without giving any song a spin on the station.

Come Friday October 2, Reece will be back on KIIS1065 announcing the first single – it would then get a run On-air. With it then going out to all markets the next day.
