Nine hits Monday home with ‘The Voice’, Elvis tribute
Nine Network had a successful Monday (May 20) with two music-themed offerings.
In its second episode for the year, The Voice slipped slightly from its return on Sunday, with 963,000 overnight metros.
It was the top rating non-news & current affairs (and 5th for the night) and still topped the 25—54 demos and 18—49 demographics.
However it slipped from #1 to #3 with the 16–39-year-olds, who were led off to Have You Been Paying Attention and Mastercraft.
The second Voice episode continued to unearth more interesting voices and four-chair turnarounds from the coaches.
But the extended focus on the coaches is a worry, and the “return” of Boy George after his Sunday night walk-out over a comment made by a contestant was farcical and disrespectful.
Nine followed up The Voice with The Elvis All-Star Tribute special which drew 382,000 overnight metros.
Filmed in Los Angeles and screened in the US in February on the NBC network, highlights included Ed Sheeran’s take on ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’, Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, John Legend’s switch on ‘A Little Less Conversation’ and Keith Urban & Post Malone ripping it up together on ‘Baby What You Want Me to Do.’
The set for the programme paid homage to Elvis‘ famed 68 Comeback Special, on NBC five decades ago.
