Last night, across eight simultaneous events in all states and territories of Australia, the inaugural National Live Music Awards (NLMAs) honoured the country’s best live music acts and performers.

Ngaiire dominated the night, taking home three awards. The pop/R&B singer-songwriter picked up National AwardsforR&B or Soul Live Act of the YearandLive Voice of the Year, and theNSWState AwardforLive Voiceof the Year.

Award director, Larry Heath said:

“Artists like Ngaiire are the beating heart of the contemporary live music scene in Australia and to be able to recognise her for that, alongside dozens of other winners around the country, is what these awards were designed for. I look forward to seeing the event evolve and develop in the years to come and continuing to spread our love for live music around the country, solidifying our place both locally and internationally one of the healthiest live music scenes in the world.”

The other multi-award winner was BrisbaneARIA winners Violent Soho, who were awardedHard Rock Live Act of the YearandQLD State AwardforLive Act of the Year.

Music export body SOUNDS AUSTRALIA took out the inaugural Industry Achievement award. The honour follows months of protests by the music industry after the Federal Government cut Catalyst funding to the body. The move was reversed earlier this month when Arts Minister Mitch Fifield approved four years of funding.

Associate Producer Esti Zilber accepted the award at the Sydney Gala event at The Basement.

“I sincerely thank everyone that has helped us through what was a very challenging and ultimately triumphant year for SOUNDS AUSTRALIA. To all of you who signed petitions and wrote letters and lobbied so incredibly hard to keep us going, it did not go unnoticed. It is so genuinely appreciated, thank you so much.

“To the champions of SOUNDS AUSTRALIA who are there, and have been there from the beginning, APRA AMCOS and the Australia Council for the Arts, our state and industry peak body, we couldn’t do it without you, thank you.

“When I asked Millie (Millgate, Executive Producer) if we won, if there was anything in particular she wanted to say – above thanking everyone for their support – she said, ‘Make sure you let everyone know that we have the best artists in the world and that you make our job an absolute joy every day.’ Thank you so much for giving so much of yourselves and making the work we do so wonderful and… another four years!”
