Nightlife is the first & only music business to place in AFR’s Top 50 Most Innovative Companies

Nightlife Music is the first ever music tech business to be ranked in AFR’s Top 50 Most Innovative Australian and New Zealand companies.

Staged by Australian Financial Review and judged and compiled by consultancy Inventium, Nightlife came in at #26, propelled up the list by their innovative venue request app crowdDJ. Launched back in March 2016, it’s now used in over 800 sites across Australia, with over five million user engagements.

“Tech businesses are critical to the resurgence of music revenues globally and we are very proud to be recognised as the first music tech business in the highly prestigious AFR’s Top 50 Innovation list,” CEO David O’Rourke told TMN.

From a field of over a thousand submissions, applicants for the awards were assessed on the merits of two recent innovations as well as the strength of innovation culture within the organisation. Nightlife achieved top ten status based on number of employees and industry sector.

The company has been instrumental in raising compliancy standards for businesses wishing to play Spotify from a commercially licensed media player. Providing a streamlined solution with high quality sound, O’Rourke is pleased with the attention and recognition the company has gained for their pioneering work in business settings.

“People are falling in love again with music as a result of consumer streaming; it’s our goal to extend this into commercial environments in a way that properly rewards artists and rights holders,” O’Rourkesaid.

After setting their sights on global expansion, accentuated by their recent partnership with electronics firm AOPEN, O’Rourke is looking to implement Nightlife’s services in regions that need it most.

“We are proud of what we’ve been able to develop for our Australian clients and are excited to be exporting our services to other territories where we see as much of a need as there is locally.”
