Laneway Festival to Scale Back Australian Run in 2027

Laneway Festival has announced some changes for its Australian run in 2027, with two cities set to miss out as organisers shake up the festival's schedule.

The long-running festival has confirmed it will take a break from Adelaide and Perth next year, while its Queensland event will relocate to Brisbane Showgrounds following a one-year stint on the Gold Coast.

The changes mean Laneway's 2027 edition will visit just four cities - Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland - with further details, including dates and the lineup, yet to be announced.

Explaining the decision to reduce the number of stops, organisers pointed to the logistical demands of taking the festival across Australia and New Zealand within a tight touring window.

"For over two decades, we've had the pleasure of bringing Laneway to Australia and New Zealand, with stints in Singapore and Detroit too," they said in a statement posted to Instagram on Monday (August 10th). "Running so many shows, so close together, across so much ground is a logistical feat we're proud of, but it also asks a lot of our lineup and crew.

"Taking a pause allows us to focus on making the festival the best it can be, while freeing up time for more artists to bring headline shows to cities beyond our festival stops."

While acknowledging the break in Adelaide and Perth "will be disappointing" for fans, organisers stressed that it does not necessarily spell the end of Laneway in either city, promising fans the move "isn't goodbye, just see you soon".

The Brisbane move also marks another shake-up for the festival's Queensland home. Laneway relocated from Brisbane to Southport Sharks on the Gold Coast for its 2026 edition, but will head back to the capital at Brisbane Showgrounds next year.

Laneway celebrated its 21st anniversary in 2026, with a lineup led by Chappell Roan alongside Wolf Alice, Role Model, Wet Leg, PinkPantheress, Geese, and more.

The festival, over its years, has become known for picking tomorrow's superstars before anyone else. In an interview with Rolling Stone AU/NZ earlier this year, co-founder Danny Rogers said: “I’m still more interested in finding who the next Charli is, who the next Fontaines D.C. is, you know. I’d rather the festival be in a position where it can move culture, not just be a follower.”
