OVERSEAS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

US charts provider Billboard has been hard at work overhauling and relaunching its Emerging Artists Chart. American act Portugal. The Man tops the inaugural September 2 edition with their breakthrough single ‘Feel It Still’ (which is also getting some serious love from Australian commercial radio this week).

The metric includes music consumption via album and single sales, streaming, radio play and fan interaction on social media to pinpoint emerging artists that have scored a Top 25 position on the Billboard Hot 100 or Bilboard 200.

Ed Sheeran notches up another accolade this week after tying the record for the most time spent in the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10. His 32 weeks in the top tier equals The Chainsmokers’ ‘Closer and LeAnn Rimes’ ‘How Do I Live’.

Shifting our attention to the UK, Dua Lipa is tipped to retain her #1 position on the UK Singles Chart this week after ‘New Rules’ eventually outran P!NK’s ‘What About Us’ to the top spot.

Lipa can’t relax just yet; CNCO & Little Mix’s Latin banger ‘Reggaeton Lento (Remix)’ and Justin Bieber’s latest ‘Friends’ with producer Bloodpop are both in the running to pluck #1 next week, according to early data.

Welsh pop punk act Neck Deep’s latest full length effort The Peace And The Panic will land a Top 3 landin the UK this week with another debut, Steven Wilson’s To The Bone, potentially denying the band their first UK #1.
