Chart Predictions: Aussie albums to battle QOTSA and War On Drugs

THE HOME FRONT

There are two Top 5 debuts on the ARIA Albums Chart this week with Queens Of The Stone Age’s Villains likely to drop in the Top 3, according to early numbers. It’s not the first time the California rockers will experience success on the chart, debuting at #1 in 2013 with …Like Clockwork.

While The War On Drugs’ previous album Lost In The Dream only managed a peak of #28 on the chart in 2014, the band will debut substantially higher this time round with their latest album A Deeper Understanding.

Girl group Fifth Harmony will sneak into the Top 10, while rock outfit Pvris will also sit amongst the fray with their sophomore album All We Know Of Heaven, All We Need Of Hell.

It would be great to see the four Aussie albums currently crowding the top 5 stick around; with current #1 Gang Of Youths currently on tour around the country, they’re a strong chance to stay well up there.

The Singles Chart speaks for itself, with Taylor Swift having no trouble claiming her fifth #1 single in Australia. The next best debut comes from Marshmello & Khalid with ‘Silence’.

OVERSEAS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

Tay Tay is also making swift impact on the charts globally this week. In the US, there’s only one place that she’s headed, and that’s #1. It’s very likely comeback single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ will climb 76 spotson Billboard’s next Hot 100 chart to usurp ‘Despacito’ at the top.

If the track does make it, Swift will rain on ‘Despacito’’s parade, denying the song a record-breaking 17th frame at #1 on the chart. Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men currently tie with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s hit for the record.

Swift’s going to hit the summit in the UK too. It will mark her first ever #1 single in the country. Yes, really– ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ came close at #2 in 2012, as did ‘Shake It Off’, peaking at the same position two years later.

‘Look What You Made You Do’ sits on nearly double the amount of UK sales than the current #1, Dua Lipa’s ‘New Rules’, with P!NK trailing behind.

TOP PICK

  • Taylor to effortlessly knock P!NK off the top of the ARIA Singles Chart.
  • Queens Of The Stone Age to notch their second debut #1 on the Albums Chart, with Gang Of Youths to stick around in the Top 3 for another week.
