Behind the knee injury which forced Kesha to postpone Australian tour, “I tried to will this injury away”

Kesha has been forced to postpone her Australian tour after an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear on her knee after a fall during a February 9 show in Dubai.

All her scheduled shows in March and April are on hold, affecting eleven dates, also including those in New Zealand, Taiwan and Japan.

Fans are being told to hold on to their tickets and await updated information.

The singer said in a statement, “It’s my biggest joy in life to share my music with my fans all over the world, but I have to follow my doctor’s orders and undergo surgery, so I can get ready to give it my all on my summer tour and beyond.

“Moving these dates is making me sick with sadness, but I tried to will this injury away and unfortunately it didn’t work.

“I love you all and I’ll work every single day, as hard as I can, to recover and get back on stage as soon as possible.

“I’m so sorry and sending love always.”

During an energetic performance by the 30-year-old of ‘We R Who We R’ at he RedfestDXB Dubai Festival at the Media City Amphitheater in the United Arab Emirates, she lost her balance and took a tumble.

She jumped up immediately, to cheers from the crowd.

The singer will undergo knee surgery to repair the torn ligament, and then undergo a rehabilitation process that could take up to a year to fully recover.

The Australian tour through Select Touring had been a success, with a Brisbane show added just a few weeks ago.

It also included a highly anticipated set at Bluesfest Byron Bay.

The dates were:

Sunday March 25 – Eatons Hill Hotel, Brisbane

Tuesday March 27— Metro City Perth

Thursday March 29 – Bluesfest, Byron Bay

Saturday March 31— ICC, Sydney

Wednesday April 4 – Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide

Thursday April 5, Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne

In between the Sydney and Adelaide shows, she was to fly to New Zealand to play Auckland’s Trusts Arena on Monday April 2.

She is still due to start a three month northern summer tour with Macklemore on June 6 in Phoenix, Arizona.

The cancellations come at a time when Kesha is on a high, with the triumph of her Rainbow album and a sold-out North American tour.

She also earned her first ever Grammy nominations, for Best Pop Solo Performance (‘Praying’) and Best Pop Vocal Album (Rainbow).

Her performance of ‘Praying’ at the Grammys was a significant flashpoint of the #MeToo movement.

It was watched by millions as she was joined on backing vocals by Cyndi Lauper, Camila Cabello, Andra Day, Bebe Rexha and Julia Michaels, all in blinding white outfits.

It was written to her former producer Dr Luke whom she sued in 2014 and accused him of drugging, sexually abusing and emotionally tormenting her.

He vehemently denied the allegations and countersued.

‘Praying’ reached #6 in Australia and was certified 3x platinum, and peaked at #3 in New Zealand.
