123 AGENCY EXPANDS ROSTER WITH BAKERS EDDY…

123 Agency’s latest signings are Melbourne brutal punk band, Bakers Eddy.

They’ve dropped the Pop Candi-directed music video for their track Good Decisions, lifted from their sophomore EP I’m Not Making Good Decisions.

They join Sydney punks The Dead Love on tour throughout August.

The band formed in 2009 in New Zealand to escape having to get a job or go to college.

In 2016, they moved to Melbourne, and with fellow Kiwi expatriate, Tom Larkin of Shihad, made their second EP which ended up on triple j and community radio.

They have also played through England and Europe.


…AND MANE…

Adelaide indie pop band Mane whose latest single Chasing Butterflies got picked up on triple j and gained over 420,000 streams on Spotify, has also been signed by the agency.

The song, explains singer Paige Court, is about “relentlessly searching for a feeling of excitement in something or someone over and over again; it’s about loving to love but getting bored really quickly.”

123 will put them on the road with Kingswood in August, taking in six shows and while also performing at BIGSOUND in September.


…BAD JUJU…

Melbourne outfit Bad Juju emerged from bands House vs Hurricane, Confession, Lovers Grave and Earth Caller to fuse a mix of ’90s inspired grunge and punk rock.

A recent triple j Unearthed feature artist, their debut EP Hidden Desire is out on Friday, July 13.

They will launch the cut at the Workers Club in their hometown supporting Trophy Eyes, following a run of headline dates in Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide throughout August.


…AND THE DEAD LOVE

Self-professed “shitty grunge” dudes The Dead Love from Sydney received Spotify and triple j support for summer anthem ‘Ordinary’.

Wake Up is described by singer Stevie Knight as “a reminder that violence towards women is still very much present among us and happening closer than you think.

“It’s a story of an ugly breakup turning physical, and touches on how some friends stayed silent even whilst others spoke up.”

They hit the road in August, taking in Melbourne, Wollongong, Sydney and Brisbane.


ISLAND AUSTRALIA COUNTS IN XIII

Island Australia/ Universal Music is handling the double A single ‘Hell Mary’/ ‘(Don’t) Leave Me Alone by XIII.

It is the new project from Gyroscope’s Dam Sanders, with a debut album coming later in the year.

One side was written on the day his music hero David Bowie died. Grief-stricken, he grabbed a bottle and decided to make music,

“I came to the studio and I’ve never done this before, but I wrote the song, all the instruments, in its entirety,” he recalls.

“I had the Telecaster plugged in, I was necking red wine, and that was musically a total Bowie thing. It absorbed me. I felt I was Bowie.”


HoT To RoT GET HYSTERICAL

Hysterical Records signed on the dotted line with Melbourne trio HoT To RoT, describing their sound as a “meld (of) post-punk and disco rhythms to create furious yet playful songs/garage rock that will take you from your bedroom floor to the dancefloor. “

Making their name in Melbourne over the last six months, their new single ‘Kindred’ paves the way for the August 17 drop of an EP.


MARSHMELLO CATCHES KOBALT

DJ/producer Marshmello signed a publishing deal with Kobalt that includes administration and synchronization of his future works as well as his back catalogue.

His sophomore album Joytime II was released last week.

His first album, Joytime, entered the Top 5 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums, with the track Alone generating 154 million Spotify plays and over 1 billion YouTube views.


POISON CITY SPOTLIGHT DARK FAIR

Dark Fair formed in 2012, the project of friends, Ramona Moore on guitar and Ellie Dunn on drums.

Their first two EPs displayed a knack for brooding, yet poppy rock songs.

New single Off Into My Head is a taster for a long player later in the year, launched at The Cactus Room in Melbourne on July 21.


CAMILLE PURCELL HITS ON BMG

Hit songwriter Camille Purcell extended her BMG publishing deal, after consecutive No.1 singles on the UK chart with co-writing credits on Clean Bandit’s Solo and I’ll Be There by fellow BMG writer Jess Glynne.

Purcell said: “I’m so happy to be signing with BMG again, and continuing such an amazing relationship.

“The team have done so much for me both in the UK and the US, supporting me both as a writer and now as an artist. I’m so excited for what’s to come in the future.”

The UK singer-songwriter, who also goes by the stage name Kamille, also had hits with Little Mix’s Shout Out To My Ex and Black Magic. and co-wrote Jax Jones’ new single Ring Ring.


SONY/ATV SIGNS COHEN, MARLEY

Music Week reported that Sony/ATV signed Bob Marley and Leonard Cohen catalogues for neighbouring rights.

The publishing company also picked up Jamie Scott, Big Shaq, Kojo Funds, Elderbrook and producer Bob Ezrin to its roster, which already included the likes of The Weeknd and Pharrell Williams.


 AUDIOPAXX ADDS JESSE PORCHES

Sydney-based DJ and producer Jesse Porsches assigned his management to Audiopaxx, it announced on its website.

He’s penned a myriad of hits over the past years; from Flume’s debut single Sleepless in 2011 to the 2015 breakthrough smash Horses under his first duo project Porsches, and its follow-up single Karate – both latter tracks amassing over a million plays on Spotify alone.

Last year he put together a second duo project Super Cruel with Adelaide producer Tigerilla. Their debut single November, featuring Lisa Mitchell, amassed over 2 million Spotify streams and was added to full rotation on triple J.


BOSE AT BIGSOUND

A partnership between BOSE, Brisbane City Council and BIGSOUND sees buskers and street performers use the BOSE S1 Pro PA system during the BIGSOUND festival in Fortitude Valley September 4—7.

ADELAIDE WORKSHOP ON RECORD LABELS

Music SA and APRA AMCOS will hold the second of the annual and free workshops ‘Getting Signed’: The Role of the Record Label in 2018.

Held at Chateau Apollo on July 4, it features Heath Bradby (Warner Music Australia & Fidelity Corp), Bree Wilkinson (Inertia Music), Ben Martin (Golden Era Records), Joel Byrne (Wolf & Cub, Sundial Productions & Music SA) and Hamish Gibson-Smith (Swirl Records) as panellists, along with Becc Bates (Arts SA) as facilitator.


CIVIC ARTS PRECINCT MOVES UP

International design practice Warren and Mahoney are teaming up with urban planners and designers Oxigen to lead the arts precinct plans for Civic in Canberra.

Over the next 12 months, the team will “develop a precinct plan that reflects the needs and aspirations of a young and dynamic community that values community life, social inclusion and financial and environmental sustainability”, says the City Renewal Authority.


CHISWICK AT SPLENDOUR

Chef Matt Moran brings his 80-seat pop up of his Chiswick restaurant to Splendour In The Grass.

Its first foray outside Sydney will be positioned in a secret backstage location overlooking a lake.

“The inspiration for Chiswick really came from my time growing up on a farm,” Moran explains.

“Our Planted to Plated philosophy is such a great fit for the Byron region. “
