ROD STEWART ACROSS UNIVERSAL

Rod Stewart’s next release in this country will be through Universal Music Australia.

The veteran singer and songwriter signed an overseas deal with Republic Records, a division of Universal Music Group.

Other Republic acts include Ariana Grande, Aminé, Black Sabbath, DNCE, Florence + the Machine, Gotye, Hailee Steinfeld, James Blake, James Bay, John Mellencamp, Keith Richards, Kid Cudi, Liam Payne, Marian Hill, Of Monsters and Men, Post Malone, Seth MacFarlane and Stevie Wonder.

Stewart’s next single is a collaboration with DNCE on a remake of his 1978 anthem ’Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’. They performed it on the MTV Video Music Awards on the weekend.

The original version went to #1 in six countries and stayed at the top in America for four weeks.

DNCE came to attention in 2015 with ’Cake By The Ocean’ which sold 7 million worldwide and scored450 million Spotify streams, while the video got 281 million views on Vevo.

FUTURE CLASSIC ADD EXHIBITIONIST

Future Classic’s latest label and management signing is Exhibitionist, the solo project by Sydney based vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Kirsty Tickle.

Tickle is also one-half of noise act Party Dozen alongside Jono Boulet, and soft released her debut single Hands earlier this year. It is now re-released with remixes by Thrupence and Willaris. K.

After debuting her live show at Volumes Festival, Exhibitionist now prepares for multiple performances at BIGSOUND.

SONY DREAMS UP RICK PRICE/ JACK JONES SET

Sony Music Entertainment Australia is handling the September 29 release of Rick Price and one time Southern Sons singer Jack Jones’ album California Dreaming.

The album, made in Price’s studio in Nashville, pays tribute to the American West Coast sound, tackling songs by The Mamas And The Papas, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Eagles, The Doors, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

MATT SCULLION FINDS HOME AT SOCIAL FAMILY

Singer songwriter Matt Scullion, who divides himself between Newcastle and Nashville, releases his second album through Social Family Records.

His first one, from ten years ago, earned him four Golden Guitar and two APRA Song of the Year nominations.

In the meantime he also penned songs recorded by Cold Chisel(’Shoot The Moon’, co-written with Ian Moss), Lee Kernaghan, Sara Storer, Adam Harvey and Travis Collins.

Label Manager Nardia Drayton says, “Social Family Records is extremely proud to have such an amazing songwriter join the label.

“We’re certainly happy to be part of the next chapter of Matt’s career and helping him get his new album out there.”

PLTS REPPED BY COLLECTIVE ARTISTS

Byron Bay’s PLTS (pronounced Pilots) have assigned their bookings to Collective Artists Agency for Australia and New Zealand.

The band showcases at BIGSOUND and supporting Hands Like Houses nationally this October. They also held their own curated mini festival Block Party.

Formed in 2012 and amassing a total of 2 million Spotify streams, the trio’s new single ’Spill’ was produced by long time collaborator JP Fung (Last Dinosaurs, Art VS Science, Josh Pyke).

YAHTZEL FINDS FOREIGN FAMILY

Sydney producer Yahtzel (Max Armata) joined the ranks of ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective, also home to Jai Wolf, Big Wild, Golden Features and RÜFÜS.

He previously collaborated on Carmada with electronic producer L D R U which released their Realise EP via LA-based label OWSLA.

Yahtzel’s new single ’Someone Else’ features Brisbane electro-pop vocalist Savoi. His work on L D R U’s smash single ’Next To You’ as well as on tracks by Perth DJ Shock One, Melbourne’s Two Can and Netherlands’s WRLD lead to a worldwide publishing agreement with Sony/ATV.

Yahtzel is currently on a 19-date tour across ANZ until October. After that he heads Stateside to join Foreign Family Collective founders ODESZA on their North American tour.

OVERSEAS DEAL FOR COFFIN CAROUSEL

Melbourne horror punk band Coffin Carousel signed a worldwide deal with U.S. label Eclipse Records.

The band was formed in 2014 by Howard Von Noise when Diamond Noir went on a hiatus. They’ve issued four singles and two EPs, with an 18-track album Between Death & Dead due out on October 13.

ENTERTAINMENT ONE GOES LATINO

A joint venture between music and movie company Entertainment One (eOne) and Latin entertainment and concert firm La Commission sees the set up of a new Latin music label – and are set to launch the next Latin music superstar in Bryant Myers through their film, TV and music divisions.

With 113 million plays on Spotify, 2.3 million Instagram followers, and 1 million YouTube subscribers Myers’ new single Pa Pasar El Rato launches the new JV.

LONDON CALLING

After creating beats for Drake, Gucci Mane and Young Thug, much-in-demand producer London On Da Track has signed with RCA on a solo deal of his own.

He told Billboard, “My transition from being a producer to an artist is taking me back to my roots and doing what I used to do being an artist in Atlanta when I was a teenager.

“So, now that I get to be in both worlds, as a producer and artist, I can brand myself in an equivalent way. I’m ready to show the fans my versatility.”

IHEARTRADIO HOSTS AFTRS NEWS

AFTRS News, the school’s third pop-up station of the year, will be live with its news, current affairs and talk on the iHeartRadio app until September 8.

WARNER CHAPPELL EXTENDS MIRANDA COOPER

Warner/Chappell has extended its lengthy worldwide deal with Miranda Cooper.

In the past 20 years, as part of songwriting and production team Xenomania, Cooper has created tracks for Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue, Pet Shop Boys, Sugababes and The Saturdays.

BROKEN STONE STOPS AT ROADHOUSE

Broken Stone Records introduced Roadhouses to its roster, with debut single’Drinkin’’ out tomorrow (August 31) to be followed by launch shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

The outfit formed in 2014 when guitarist and songwriter Yvonne Moxham invited Mess Hall drummer Cec Condonto play a one off show. A recording session in NYC with War On Drugs producer Nicolas Vernhes was followed by the addition of bass player James Bellesini.

PORN CRUMPETS SET UP OWN LABEL

Perth psycho-groove bandPsychedelic Porn Crumpets, whose sold out dates on the East Coast had crowds packing in underneath drippingceilings, are taking an extra step.

They’ve set up their own What Reality? Records, which is part of a studio of that name which is currently being built.

Singer Jack McEwan says WRR will initially issue the band’s material (the first two pressings have sold out) to be followed by their solo projects and bands that they like.

PLANET BROADCASTING SETS IN TIME

James Clement and Claire Tonti’s online network Planet Broadcasting has scored its first international sponsor, MVMT Watches, for its 15 Australian comedy podcasts.

In recent weeks, it’s added comedians Wil Anderson, Karl Chandler & Tommy Dassalo of The Little Dum Dum Club and actor Charlie Clausen to its lineup.

Planet Broadcasting claims 3 million monthly listeners.
